Yes, you read that correctly. What was first planned as a submarine-like structure has now evolved into the Hugh Story Memorial Rose Garden. Although the original design was attractive to many, the final approvals could not be obtained.

A garden concept, located adjacent to the World War II Submarine Memorial at NTC, has proved appealing to all parties and would most certainly have pleased Hugh. Dennis Otsuji of ONA Landscape Architecture developed the rose garden plan such that it flows beautifully into the overall landscape design on this NTC Phase II site. Although there are still final approval steps with the Park and Recreation Department, no true obstacles are anticipated, and completion is projected for early next year.

The Hugh Story Memorial Rose Garden is a project of the Point Loma Association with funds managed by the Point Loma Foundation. Donations are still being accepted. Checks should be made out to the Point Loma Foundation, making a notation that the check is for the Hugh Story Memorial. Send to:
