Help the PLA
Every resident and every business in the Peninsula enjoys the benefits to our
community created by the PLA. Beautification projects like the gorgeous Catalina
Blvd. on and off ramps and the Nimitz/Sunset Cliffs triangle are obvious to all
who travel our streets. Creative, artistic painting of utility boxes adorns widespread
neighborhoods in Point Loma. Thousands of us flock to the summer concerts to
enjoy music and camaraderie with our friends and families.
Less obvious, perhaps, are the numerous volunteers who respond quickly to
each reported episode of graffiti in the neighborhood, scrubbing, erasing or
painting over the offending images, helping to control the rise in crime that
graffiti always precedes.
We have all seen our friends and neighbors, wearing bright green PLA Volunteer
vests, pruning, trimming, pulling weeds or planting bright colored ornamentals.
Do we also know that these same volunteers collect trash and litter from the
streets, clear the debris of our homeless residents and partner with schools,
churches and other community organizations in projects to enhance and preserve
our quality of life in Point Loma?
These unpaid volunteers come from all walks of life to care for our neighborhoods.
They are a diverse and committed group: retired educators, doctors, lawyers,
business owners and Naval officers. Some are elderly and retired; others are
young and active in their schools or careers. All care passionately about Point
Loma.
We need the help of every resident and business in the community. At the very
least, support our neighborhoods by joining the PLA. An annual membership in
the PLA is $30. Enhanced donations at higher levels are welcomed and crucial
to the work of the organization. Generous donors in our community have funded
specific, individual projects. We are indebted to these benefactors.
Opportunities to volunteer your time, energy, skills and expertise exist in
many areas. Join the Mean Green Team in their weekly beautification projects.
Come every week or as often as your schedule allows. You will be welcomed by
a warm and friendly group sharing in your love of our neighborhood. Blessed
with artistic or computer skills? There is a place for you. JOIN US.
THE PLA WANTS YOU!
