Six Cigarette Butt
Receptacles are installed in Point Loma.
The Point Loma Association, in collaboration with I Love a Clean San Diego
and the San Diego Chapter of the Surfrider foundation, installed 6 ash receptacles
in neighborhood high pedestrian traffic areas today. Local area receptacle
studies estimate that the receptacles will collect more than 2,500 cigarette
butts each month. This should prevent 2,500 monthly fewer nicotine laden cigarette
butts from, not only creating urban litter but, most importantly reaching our
beaches and oceans. In San Diego county, cigarette butts have been identified
as our most pervasive litter item!
The Point Loma Association is committed to initiate this small but important
grassroots effort to educate the public about worldwide cigarette butt litter
and pollution. At a cost of approximately $200 each, the containers are made
out of stainless steel, designed to be attached to any poles and are easily
emptied . If you would like to support an ash can near your business, please
